Physical Chemist Wilhelm Ostwald published in 1922 a scientific theory for the harmony of forms, mainly for combining lines on tiles with different symmetries. It is straightforward to extend his method for describing harmonics of juxtaposed tessellations. In each of the two windows, the outer panels’ tessellations were juxtaposed in the middle panel. For example, the second row from the bottom in the right window shows a famous Alhambra pattern, as a result of juxtaposing a tessellation with a copy of itself that was mirror reflected first then shifted a half unit in both x and y directions. Coloring was generated using three transparent colors red, yellow, and blue. Details about the mapping between the overlapping tessellations could be found in this interferogram.
