This artwork builds on an earlier piece ‘shifting symmetry 1’. I tried, here, to make the emergence of a new symmetry more explicit and part of the artwork. The dove tiling of symmetry p2 is combined with a rotated (60 degree) copy of itself, resulting in a grid with hexagonal symmetry (p6). The demons are cutting along the the hexagonal grid lines and stitching the fragments to re-create the doves, which resulted in shifting the symmetry again from p6 to p3. However the choices of the two groups of demons regarding stitching the fragments are inconsistent and does not permit for a consistent p3 tiling.
